Is a microwave worth repairing?
Often yes, especially for built-in and over-the-range models that fit a cabinet opening. Door latch parts, turntable motors, and control boards are common repairs. We tell you what failed and let you decide. Countertop units with major cooking-circuit damage sometimes make less sense to fix.
Why does mine spark inside?
Arcing usually points to a damaged waveguide cover, burnt food residue, or metal touching the interior wall. Stop using it and unplug it. Sparks can pit the cavity and stress the magnetron, so it's better to have someone look before more damage happens.
Should I try opening it myself?
Please don't. Microwaves hold a high-voltage capacitor that can stay charged after unplugging. That charge is dangerous even with the cord out of the wall. Our techs discharge it with the right tools before touching anything inside the cabinet.
Can you work on over-the-range models?
Yes. Those need the unit lowered off its mounting plate, and the vent path checked while it's down. Grease-clogged filters and blower wheels are frequent culprits behind weak venting and rattles. We reinstall it level and confirm the fan and light both work.
